Today , instead of going deeper into JOIN statements , I am going to talk about the latest gadget from Microsoft , LightSwitch , available at http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/lightswitch. Installation seems easy enough so won’t be going through it. Just remember to install visual studio 2010 service pack 1. It will ask you to install it don’t worry.

So what is LightSwitch? Eh ah , I just started so I am not sure what it should be called so here is the description of it straight from MS ,

“Microsoft Visual Studio LightSwitch is a simplified, self-service development tool that enables you to build business applications quickly and easily for the desktop and cloud.”

Basically , it looks like MS Office Access. I am currently playing around with one of the sample projects they have on the same website above and will post more later.

UPDATE : It looks like glorified GUI rapid application development environment for MS SQL Server for web/desktop applications. It has extensions just like Eclipse and other OpenSource IDEs. Currently , there is only one in the extension list , Document Viewer. So if you are into SQL development , and familiar with VisualStudio environment , it might be worthwhile looking into it. I will definitely be playing around with it for next few days and see how it goes.
